Course Overview

Nutrition involves eating a healthy diet so that your body gets the correct balance of nutrients. This is critical in order to improve your overall wellbeing and reduce the risk of developing a non-communicable disease (NCD).

However, deciding which foods are healthy can be complicated. Conflicting information can make it difficult to make the best choices.

Although each person requires different types and quantities of food, the EssentialSkillz Nutrition course can help you understand what defines ‘healthy’ so you can start to make more informed decisions.

Course Objectives

This training course covers the following:

  • Describes why nutrition is important for the body
  • Outlines what foods make up a balanced diet
  • Discusses different ways you can make small changes towards a healthier lifestyle

Course Content

The course looks at what constitutes a balanced diet, how much of each food group you should eat and what foods you should avoid. Sometimes foods we might think are healthy can be full of extra sugar or salt.

The course outlines the recommended limits for how much sugar and salt you should consume in a day, and shows you how to recognise foods that might contain excess amounts.

Hydration is an equally important element of a healthy diet, so the course includes information on how much liquid you should drink each day, what types of liquids count towards the daily recommendation, and how dehydration can negatively affect your body.
