Incident Reporting and Investigation eLearning Course
Overview
You’re passing through a corridor during a lunchtime break when you hear a pupil becoming verbally aggressive towards another. The situation escalates, so you step in to calm things down. Luckily, it’s not as bad as it first seemed, and both students stand down and go their separate ways. But you’re unsure of what to do next. Does this incident need to be reported? And if so, what exactly needs to be recorded?
Behaviour-related incidents aren’t always straightforward. What might seem like a one-off issue can point to something more serious, including safeguarding concerns or unmet needs. Responding inconsistently or recording incidents poorly can put pupils and staff at risk and expose the school.
This course will help you recognise when an incident must be reported, understand your safeguarding and legal responsibilities, and follow clear processes for reporting and recording incidents correctly.
Outline Learning Objectives:
- Recognise when an incident must be reported, so you can keep pupils and staff safe
- Identify your key safeguarding and legal responsibilities, so you can avoid unsafe actions
- Describe how to report incidents clearly and correctly, so you can protect everyone involved
