Overview

Interacting with other children and young people is a normal part of attending school for students. But sometimes, these relationships and interactions can undermine their welfare. When a student or group of students acts in a way that harms another child or group of children, it’s known as child-on-child abuse. What can you do to respond appropriately to incidents and concerns? And what steps can your school take to prevent it from happening?

Understanding what child-on-child abuse is and how students may encounter it is the first step to safeguarding students against it. You need to respond promptly and supportively to related reports and concerns. Understanding how you and your colleagues can prevent child-on-child abuse will help you contribute to a safer educational environment for all children.
