You and your colleagues have a unique insight into the lives and welfare of the students you work with. You have an important role to play in keeping them safe. But no one practitioner or agency can have a full picture of a student’s experiences or the unique challenges they and their caregivers face. How can you contribute to the creation of a holistic understanding of safeguarding concerns and how to overcome them?

Collaborating openly with other professionals, such as the local authority and social workers, allows you to share insight and information. Understanding the role of local safeguarding provisions and pathways will help you take a holistic approach to safeguarding. Learning about the different meetings you and your colleagues may collaborate at will help you contribute to a multi-agency approach to protecting students from harm.

• Recognise the importance of multi-agency working, so you can collaborate to safeguard students
• Identify the role of local policies, procedures, and referral pathways, so you understand how they work alongside your school’s safeguarding provision
• Recognise the purpose and structure of Multi-professional meetings, Team Around the Family meetings and Child protection conferences, so you can collaborate to prioritise student welfare
