And what can you do to support children who’ve been impacted?

Understanding what domestic abuse is will help you recognise the impact it can have on students and their families. Knowing what to look out for will help you meet your statutory responsibility to safeguard all students. And learning how to support children who have experienced domestic abuse in the home will help you take a child-centred approach to safeguarding.

Outline Learning Objectives:

  • Define domestic abuse so you have a developed understanding of the challenges children and families experiencing it may encounte
  • Identify the signs that a student might be living in a home where domestic abuse is occurring so you know what to look out for
  • Recall how to support a child who has been exposed to domestic abuse so you can take steps to safeguard them
