Overview

Everyone working at your school has a part to play in remaining vigilant for the signs of abuse. But what happens when someone notices something that suggests a student might need safeguarding? Who is available to offer expert guidance and liaise with external agencies? And who oversees the development of child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures to protect students and support staff?

The designated safeguarding lead, or DSL, plays a critical and strategic role in your school’s safeguarding culture. Whether you’re a DSL yourself, or a member of the board of governors or senior leadership team, understanding the role will help you safeguard all students.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Identify the role of the DSL, so you can contribute to safeguarding all students
  • Recognise the responsibilities of the DSL, so you understand how they create a safe educational environment
