Everyone working in your school or college has an important, active role to play in making sure it’s a safe place for students to learn and thrive in. But this kind of collective approach to safeguarding doesn’t just happen. It’s got to be consciously nurtured and developed by members of the senior leadership team, like you.

If everyone’s going to play their part when it comes to safeguarding students, they’ve got to understand safeguarding principles and their responsibilities. That’s why you need to prioritise and schedule safeguarding training for everyone who works with students.

Creating a safeguarding code of conduct for staff and students will also support everyone within your school’s or college’s safeguarding culture to contribute. And you can also take steps to promote a strong safeguarding culture, too.
