Everyone working with children and young people has a responsibility to safeguard them against harm of any kind.
You’ve got to remain vigilant for the signs of abuse at all times. It’s an important part of making sure your place of work is a safe, child-focused environment that protects all students.
As a key contributor to your school’s or college’s safeguarding culture, you’ve got to know what to look out for. Understanding your statutory responsibilities towards the students you work with will provide clarification. And recognising types of abuse alongside the possible barriers to identifying them will help you safeguard all students.
Outline Learning Objectives:
- Define the four main categories of abuse, so you can safeguard students who might be being abused, or may be susceptible to abuse
- Recognise the signs that a student might be being abused, so you know what to look out for
- Describe the barriers to recognising that a student might be being abused, so you canovercome them to safeguard all students
