Overview
Privacy and dignity is something that we take for granted.
When you are caring for someone, however, it can be challenging to respect their privacy and dignity whilst supporting them with day to day activities.
Privacy and dignity are basic human rights. In this course learners will explore these terms in more detail as they discover how their actions can promote or compromise dignity and privacy.in a health and social care setting.
Objectives
- List different ways an individual’s privacy and dignity could be compromised
- Explain what they can do to promote the privacy and dignity of those they care for
- Learn the importance of how supporting individuals’ dignity and privacy promotes self-respect and builds trust between yourself and those you care for
- Enable and encourage individuals to actively participate in activities and tasks as independently as possible

- Maintain privacy and dignity of individual(s) in your care
- Support an individual’s right to make choices and support individuals in making choices about their care
- Understand how to support active participation and support the individual in active participation in their own care
